One of the joys of the winter season is gathering with family and friends around warm, steaming bowls of pasta. Whatever sauce you put on it — or no sauce, if that’s your thing — pasta is a comfort food.

Now, pasta maker Barilla is launching a new seasonal shape, available for a limited time only, that can help you up your seasonal pasta game: pasta in the shape of snowflakes.

Remember Barilla Love — that cute heart-shaped pasta the brand first released as a sweepstakes prize for Valentine’s Day 2023 and then made available for purchase for a limited time at retail stores to mark romance’s big day in 2024? The new Barilla Snowfall is like that, only for the winter holidays.

The brand says this new take on seasonal pasta was intended to “capture the joy that snow brings to us each winter,” with three snowflake shapes in each box that “represent elements of the season and ethos of the brand.” A “traditional” flake shape reflects, obviously, “tradition.” A “poinsettia-inspired” ridged flake depicts “joy.” And a flake with a heart in the middle is meant to evoke “love,” winking not only at the emotion, but also at Barilla’s motto, “A Sign of Love.”

The shapes are made of the same pasta — featuring the “high-quality ingredients” and reliable al dente texture — as Barilla’s classic shapes. And like those familiar shapes, they come in a recognizable blue box. In another nod to the season of gifting, though, Barilla Snowfall boxes also feature a “festive tag” in the design, so you can give the gift of seasonal pasta. (Alas, the boxes probably won’t fit in stockings, but maybe you can figure out a workaround.)

“Barilla has a long and proud history of bringing people together over shared meals, especially during the most wonderful time of the year,” Angie Cotter, U.S. pasta category marketing director at Barilla, says in a press statement. “It’s been magical watching Barilla Snowfall come to life, and we hope that it inspires moments of togetherness, helping to create new memories with loved ones. We look forward to continuing to bring joy to the pasta-eating experience with many more fun shapes to come.”

Barilla Snowfall pasta will be available starting in early December, while supplies last, only at Walmart stores nationwide and on Walmart.com.

And if you’re looking for ideas for dishes in which to use them, you might start with this collection of 47 pasta recipes that have racked up a slew of five-star ratings. They’d also be super cute in a minestrone or a chicken soup. Amazing as these dishes are with traditional pasta shapes, as a nod to the winter season, they may be even better snowy!
